Overview

In New York City, activist and Black Lives Matter protester Dwreck Ingram appeared to have been targeted by the NYPD through the use of facial recognition technology, raising serious concerns about surveillance and the policing of dissent. Meanwhile, in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, housing justice advocates Tranae Moran and Fabian Rogers, residents of the Atlantic Towers apartment complex, faced threats of eviction as a consequence of their outspoken resistance to the installation of facial recognition systems within their homes. Highlighting the growing tension between tenant rights, technological overreach, and systemic surveillance in communities of color.
